Can we talk about something that I have mentioned here and there but it is something for me that is a big topic and something that I have had to seriously overcome recently….
Busy…. Busy is bullshit my friends. This word is one that we love to use as women and I think as a society. “Oh I can’t go I am busy”, someone asked you how you are “Oh I have been so busy.” It’s like we are competing for who can be the busiest or who can pretend to have more going on. The worst part is busy doesn’t mean you are accomplishing anything!
Don’t get me wrong I don’t know how some of you moms do it but let’s be real here for a sec. If you really think hard, have you used the word busy to describe yourself so that others give you sympathy, to justify the action that you are taking in life or have you used it as an excuse to get out of something that you just couldn’t say you didn’t want to go to?
For at least a year and a half I fell into the busy trap. I would tell people I couldn’t go I was to busy. I didn’t have time I was to busy. People would say how are things. I would respond “oh girl it’s great it’s so busy”. Guess what. I wasn’t busy doing things that were moving me in the right direction of my vision and my goals. I wasn’t moving the needle on my business (or at that time businesses) I was literally telling myself I was busy so that I felt better about not doing what I needed to daily. Busy could even have been construed for me as a self-sabotage word. If I felt busy I felt great about my success. It wasn’t what I wasn’t doing because I didn’t have time for more. (you guys this is literally how I felt and what I was telling myself).
How many of you fall victim to feeling busy but have never actually broke down your day to taken a peek at where you are spending your time. Better yet do you know what the drivers are for your business? These are TWO amazing activities that you could do to bring yourself back to reality of why you might not be where you would like to in your business.
I challenge you to:
- Look at what drives your business.
- Is it conversations? (I bet this would drive a lot more activity if you had more of these)
- Break down for a week where you spend your time.
- I feel like we have talked about this in the past but it’s a good refresher.
I think once you do these two activities you will realize you might be spending your time doing things that aren’t moving you forward. This was WAY eye opening to me. I also do this every time I want to do something and feel like I don’t have time. It’s a great way to prioritize what is important and give the right amount of time to those things!
Make the mindset shift and take the word busy out of your vocabulary because frankly, if its important you will make it a priority and you will make time for it. Be committed to thinking and hearing what is coming out of your mouth because you are putting out into the universe because if you are too “busy” why would the universe provide you with any other or any better opportunities!?
We all have that one friend that is always to busy, and sometimes you can’t figure out doing what 😉 Are you that friend?
